Survival Game - The Original Paintball Game
Paintball is all About Survival
"Paintball is also more than just a game. At its most exhilarating moments it is an intensified version of what people do every day. With varying degrees of success, we're all avoiding and confronting obstacles on our way to reaching our goals. This is the case whether you're in school or pursuing a career, a man or a woman, regardless of your beliefs or ethnicity.
Paintball captures the essence of the basic struggle of every living being. Staging in the game is the obvious metaphor for staying alive. And winning is about being great at surviving while vanquishing foes in fair play.
The game of paintball creates a situation in which the only way to survive is to act in manner that balances precise aggression with caution. You attain objectives by taking risks that you have a good chance of handling."

Hayes Noel is probably the most influential man when it comes to the early history of paintball. While today's biggest events include speedball tournaments like the Campaign Cup and the Mardi Gras Open, the first event was conceived of as a survival game. The Survival Game was a best man wins contest. The Survival Game was played in the wood using old clothes and army camo. The game was played over a large area. The paintballs used in these first survival games were paintballs of roughly the same size that is used today, but the fill was oil based. Today's paintballs are water-based and come out in one cycle of the wash (usually). The first paintballs were made by Nelson Paintball, and these oil based projectiles would only come out with a heavy dose of turpentine. Nelson Paintballs are also the makers of some of today's best paintballs, including the Anarchy Paintballs, Challenger Paintballs, and Gold Medal Series Paintballs. All sports paintballs made by Nelson today are water based and non-hazardous. These paintballs are made out of many of the same ingredients as gummy bears.

The first games of paintball were organized by Hayes Noel, Charles Gaines, George Butler, and Debra Dion Krischke, and Bob Gunnsey. This was a survival game and capture the flag game. In this game, several flags were placed at about the mid-point sides of the field. There were no teams in this version of the game, every man was for himself. This version of the game was single elimination, if you were shot, you were out of the game. The goal of this game was capture as many flags as you could without getting eliminated.
In their first game the first marker used was the Nel-spot Marker, which was a pumpgun. Later came the semiautomatics and the fully automatics. Some popular semi-automatic paintball guns on the Market today include the Assassin from ACI, the W6-65 E from Armotech, and the Tetra from JT USA.
