Strategies | Hold That Flag!
Hold That Flag! is an interesting game that has elements of familiar paintball games as well as card games such as power that may involve things like bluffs and psyching out the competition. Teams that win Hold That Flag! matches often are not the best players on the field but have the best strategies in the bidding process and during games.
In the game of Hold That Flag!, a Gamemaster presides over the choosing of the team captains, the bidding process, and the game events where one team must bravely defend a flag against two other teams. Teams that are flag defenders get points for a successful defense, and attacking teams get points when they are able to breach the wall of defense. Many of the most important strategies to take in this game occur even before a shot has been fired. If one or two teams is able to get a third team to bid way too high for a flag defense, then they will be in a strong position to gain points as an attacking team. Before we go into any more detail about Hold That Flag strategies, let's take a look at the rules and fundamentals of the game.

Pregame/Game Time - Prior to the start of the game, the Gamemaster selects 3 captains from a group of players. Next, the captains take turns picking teams. After the 3 teams are assembled, the three captains represent their teams in the bidding process. Team 1 makes their bid in minutes, how many minutes they think they can guard a flag set up on the field. Teams 2 & 3 consecutively get a chance then to up the bid or say "Then Hold that Flag!" or "Yeah, let's see you Hold That Flag!" The game starts with the bid winning team around the flag and the other two teams 100 yards away. The two attacking teams then have the number of minutes of the winning bid to reach the flag and touch it. Attacking teams can work separately or together to touch, but they both have the same objective.
Scoring - If the defending team hold the flag for the duration of the bidding time, they get two points. If any attacking player reaches and touches the flag, then each attacking team gets one point. The round is over once the time in bidding minutes has expired or when the flag has been touched. Once the round is over, the captains immediately rebid the flag and start another round. Typically, there are four to eight total rounds in a match of Hold That Flag, with little breaks between games.
Strategies - Two of the most important strategies in these games/rounds/match is to overbid on times that are beyond your reach, and to get an opposing team to bid time that they couldn't possibly defend. With the defending team outnumbered two to one, it's only a matter of time until the combined forces of both team will overcome the flag defenders. The strategy towards a successful flag defense is to bid for just low enough for an umber that you will feel you can defend and just high enough so that the defense will hold back against upping the bid.
