United States Paintball
Paintball is a sport that began in the United States, and has grown into paintball leagues with paintball fields in every state. The game's roots trace all the way back to Hayes Noel who put together a team of athletes, woodsman, and professionals to play a set of games that were designed to sharpen man's natural survival instincts United States Paintball began with Hayes Noel taking a walk through the woods in Charlottesville, Virginia, near the home of a friend. Hayes was on a vacation from his home in New York City, where he worked as a stockbroker. He was concerned with a world of people who had gone soft through their days spent in office buildings, buying meat in the grocery store, and electric heating. Would the American public be able to survive a hostile world in the event of an invasion. Hays came up with a combination game and sport where players would defend themselves with non-lethal projectiles using survival instincts like shooting, running, and attacking. This survival game grew into the sport of paintball. Today, there are over 1,200 paintball fields throughout the United States with several leagues that include the National College Paintball Association, and the World Paintball League. Paintball games are played every day in the US year-round and tournament games are played nearly every weekend where young playes experience their first tournament action, and high ranking professional tams compete for national sponsorships and prize money.

Some paintball leagues wee formed specifically regional teams to play each other. Some US Regional Leagues include the New York XBall League with games drawing teams in the New York area, and the Global Paintball League which hosts tournament games from April to November. While some leagues specialize in global tournaments other leagues are national with teams from all over the United States. Some U.S. National Leagues include Paintball Sports Promotions PSP, the National Professional Patinball League NPPL, and the World Patinball League. With these games drawing the interest of a national patinball audience, leagues like the NPPL have televised games and national sponsorships outside the industry.
