South Dakota Paintball Fields
South Dakota is located just above Nebraska and just below North Dakota. South Dakota is a nice place to live and has a lot of great places for exploring and sightseeing. South Dakota is a Midwestern state that is located in the northern region of the country. The Missouri River runs through the state, cutting it into two halves that are very different culturally and economically. The people of the state know each other as "West River" or "east river", depending on which side of the Missouri they grew up and live in. In the southwest region of the state, the pine covered Black Hills mountain range provides many great views. Mt. Rushmore is located in the Black Hills. Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a monumental granite sculpture featuring the busts of past presidents Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington. The Mt. Rushmore Memorial was sculpted by Gutzon Borglum and 400 engineers, sculptures, and other workers.
The capital of the state is Pierre and its largest city is Sioux Falls. Visitors looking for beautiful scenic drives ride along the striking needles highway (Route 87) past some spectacular, needle-sharp granite spires. Iron Mountain Road has views of Mount Rushmore over pigtail bridges and thorough tunnels. Notable state and national parks include Jewel Cave National Monument and the nearly 300,000 acre Badlands National Park. Other interesting sites in South Dakota include the Crazy Horse Memorial in Custer and the Mammoth Site in Hot Springs. The Mammoth Site contains the fossilized remains of more than 100 mammoths. Sioux Falls hot spots include the Old Courthouse Museum, Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History, and Minerva's restaurant.
South Dakota also has its fair share of excellent paintball fields. At Darkside Paintball Arena in Brookings, the operators encourage spirited play and plenty of attacking and shooting in the spirit of the game. Darkside Paintball Arena is one place where athletes are encouraged to hunt their opposition and strike them down with fast moving projectiles (all while playing the game safely, of course). Darkside has indoor fields that are well maintained and well lit, with Open Games and special events such as scenario games and prize tournaments. Darkside has a 21,000 square foot indoor arena with many different styles of inflatable and fabricated bunkers. While some indoor arena simply feature standardized proportional fields, Darkside fields have different rooms and corridors for players to run through and tag each other. Special events like Father's Day at Darkside encourage a family friendly environment where father and son and father and daughter teams can compete side by side as teammates.
Other South Dakota paintball fields include James River Valley Paintball in Mellette, Flags and Wheels in Rapid City, and Urban Warfare in Dell Rapids. Urban Warfare is also known as Sioux Falls Arena Paintball. The Proshop and Urban Warfare is run by the Philly All Americans paintball team. The playing field in Urban Warfare is surrounded by woods on two sides, tents on a third side, and a recreational area on a fourth side. Urban Warfare has a 7-Man X-Ball field.
