Extreme Sports
Extreme Sports are sports that are a little bit more risky and dangerous than conventional sports. Extreme sports usually involve great heights, great speeds, or heavy hitting. While sports like ice hockey, cricket, and American Football are usually team games and are centuries old, extreme sports usually feature individual achievements and are less than 30 years old. While extreme sports do usually involve great heights or great speeds, the athletes involved do not seek to hurt themselves, and all possible safety precautions are taken. Extreme sports are played in almost and physical medium: air mountain, ice, snow, earth, water. The sports within the genre of extreme sports are so different that defining the industry is challenging. However, there are some character traits among the participating athletes. The participants are usually thrill seekers and adrenalin junkies, athletes who seek to challenge themselves in difficult environments and go faster and higher than ever before. The athletes in these events have are flexible, and have a high tolerance for pain and a high tolerance for physical exertion. Some of the most challenging of the extreme sports would include ice climbing and mountaineering. In the sport of ice climbing climbers scale tall mountains while walking, crawling, climbing, and ever scaling straight up verticals. In the events of mountaineering and ice climbing, the athletes must not only manage the physical exertion required to travel so high, but they must also manage some of the harshest weather elements in the world. Some environmental challenges that mountain climbers face is the extreme cold, the extreme wind chills, and high winds that seek to knock the climbers off the mountain. In any sport like this, there are any number of physical dangers that the climbers must face. Some of these dangers include falling rocks, mud avalanches, avalanche, falls, and hypothermia. While none of the athletes participating in these events seek to get injured, many do get a thrill out of succeeding in the face of such dangers and overcoming some of nature's biggest challenges. One of the thrills of traveling to the North Pole or scaling to the top of Mount Everest is the knowledge that they are traveling to a place few people have ever been, and have accomplished something that few people ever will.
While sports like ice climbing and mountain climbing are tests of physical endurance, extreme sports like freestyle motorcross, drag racing, and aggressive skating are events of speed, where the athletes use the machines of the event to travel as fast as possible. In the sport of drag racing, two drivers in two cars sport of drag racing, two drivers in two cars or motorcycles race side by side down a straightaway, with the winner crossing the finish line first. The challenge in this event is to achieve and hold a maximum speed in a short period of time without losing control of the vehicle. Drag racing events are usually held on a quarter mile straightaway, and its riders often achieve speeds as high as 330 miles an hour.

Some extreme sports take place in the mountains, some on race tracks, and some in the air, as in the sports like bungee jumping, paragliding, and wind sports. Some wind sports include sail biking, snow kiting, kite flying, and kite boarding. Some extreme sports water sports include wake boarding and water skiing.
