Bonus Balling - Bonus Balled
Bonus balling the act of continuing to hit a player after he has been eliminated. Bonus Balling is a disgrace to the sport, and a behavior that will be penalized at most tournaments. Bonus Balling is a behavior that is unsportsmanlike and could compromise the safety of the players in the game.
For a list of other things that can get you penalized for, then read on below.
- Shooting at someone from outside the boundary lines is strictly
prohibited.
- Turning up the velocity on your paintball gun during the game is a flagrant violation of PSP rules.
- Any form of wiping will result in a penalty if the player is caught. Wiping is any type of deliberate activity that serves to cover up the paint from an elimination shot. You know that diving and wiping those iknees is wrong, and the ref knows it too.
- Any maneuver by an eliminated player to continue to affect the game is cheating and is disgusting. An example of such a maneuver would be the human shield. The human shield happens when a player that has been hit stays on the field long enough to shield a teammate running forward towards a bunker. There are times that you will get away with this, but you will be setting yourself up for a painful round of bonus balling. If the ref recognizes your deceptive behavior, he may just decide to look the other way while your bonus balling opponents light you up.
- Deceptive practices during a paint check, like painting to a different part of your body than where you were hit, is strictly prohibited. In a paintball match, you are going to get some spatter on you from rolling around the paint stained turf or from sliding against the paint stained bunker. So if you are hit, you will always have a smudge to point to, that is smaller than the actual hit and not considered big enough to take you out of the game. If you are hit and call a paint check, you may be temped to point to an area away from the real impact. But remember, these tactics will not make you a better player in the long run. For future tournament success, be honest about your paintcheck and focus your energies on skill building.
- One sly maneuver is to stand in an opponent's way after getting eliminated to egg on the player into bonus balling you. After you have seduced the opponent into shooting you, you cry out to the ref that you are getting bonus balled.
-
Playing on is when a player continues to shoot at an opponent after they have been hit. This can be a particularly effective maneuver if you are both shooting at each other at the same time, or if you fire a hit within a second of being eliminated yourself. The referee might not be able to see who hit who first, and call you back out.

The quote below is a word of caution to the potential cheater.
"But as you'll read in the future, times have changed and the
paintball youth has very little understanding of the old-school
honor system. There are a lot of players that will push the limit of
the rules until they get caught. Some people even consider bonus
balling and playing on to be considered cool…….It is almost
impossible to play or watch a game without seeing some form of
cheating. Whether it be diving on a leg hit or bonus balling the
hell out of someone. When one kid acts like this, there is a chain
reaction and everyone needs to start cheating to profusely to
survive."
