Wedge | Inflatable Bunker
The Wedge Inflatable opera is not one of the more prominent obstacles you would see at an NPPL or PSP event, but it always livens up games when it is used. The Wedge is one of the widest bunkers in the game, and is a big source of cover for players who manage to reach it. The wedge is about 5 feet wide, 5 feet long, and 5 feet wide. The wedge is a triangular bunker, with one short end, and two long ends. One of the long ends is usually touching the turf, and the other long end is at a diagonal facing the player. It looks like a long, thin slice of pie laying down on the ground. Some manufacturers of the Wedge bunker include Sup' Airball and Mighty Paintball. Other inflatable bunkers you would see on a speedball field include the Car Wash, Wing, Power Tube, Pony Keg, and Boomerang.

Usually, at the biggest tournament fields you won't see bunkers like the Wedge as often as you will see bunkers like the Cylinder or the Dorito. The Dorito and Cylinder have a much shorter width, which opens up the field more and keeps the action going more. At NEPL tournament games, the games are played in the speedball format, with several 5 man and 7 man tournament events held all over New England. The New England Paintball League kicked off the 2007 season with any NEPL events at Cape Cod Paintball and Maynard Paintball Club. The NEPL offers events for players and teams of all experience levels, from the rookie division to the Intermediate Division. The 4 divisions in the 2007 NEPL included the 5 Man Rookie, 5 Man Novice, 7 Man Amateur, and 7 Man Intermediate. Like the other major paintball leagues, the NEPL give teams point totals per event based on their rankings in that event, and their cumulative scores are tallied at the end of the year to determine a seasonal champion. The teams in the Amateur and Intermediate Divisions who are able to consistently experience success learn how to move in and out of their bunkers effectively, and they know how to work airball bunkers like the Wedge and the Wings.
Players at the NEPL Event saw action right out of the break area when they heard the Game On! signal. Over 250 teams from the four divisions competed for end of the year trophies and prizes. Though many teams brought their best game to be an NEPL events only a select few would be able to enjoy top three rankings at the end of the season. At the end of last season, the seasonal champions included the Friendly Fire Factory in the Amateur, Resurrection in the Intermediate, Undertoe of the Rooky class, and Armageddon in the Rookie Division. In the NEPL, the Amateur division is one step up from the Intermediate Division.
