Mirror Image
If a speedball field is set up correctly, then the bunker arrangements from both sides of the field will be a mirror image of one another. Imagine the two sides of a paintball field as two halves of a rectangle, as are the field dimensions in tournaments like the Mexico X-Ball League Series and the Centurio Circuit. If you perfectly place the bunkers according to league specifications, and draw out these bunkers formations on a board, the bunkers should overlap one another if you fold the diagram in half. If you are having trouble understanding this concept, think of the two sides of a chess board. At the start of the chess match, the arrangements of pieces on one side will be exactly the same as the arrangement of pieces on the opposite side. If the board was a two dimensional drawing, all the pieces would connect if you were to fold the board in half. Now imagine drawing out a diagram of a bunker ball or speed ball tournament field. Draw out the boundary lines of the field, with its borders and center line. Next, draw out the placement of the bunkers on both sides of the filed. If you were to then fold this diagram in half, all the pieces would come together. Matches that feature this type of bunker placement can be seen in tournaments from paintball leagues such as the Crossroads Tournament Series and the PALS Series.

These styles of bunker fields, with two identical sides with mirror image bunker placements are ideal for a number o reasons. First, both teams in the game start the game on the same playing filed. Both teams start out in the game with the same bunkers to get behind and shoot from. Neither team has a distinct advantage over the other, as both sides will be shooting from the same angles, bunkers placements, and bunkers sizes. Another advantage of the perfect alignment of these bunkers is that players can study bunker arrangements that will be featured at tournaments from hundreds of miles away. Speed ball fields can be designed by field or tournament creators, and the field dimensions and bunker arrangements can be drawn out and published to the website of the outfit hosting the tournament. Coaches can download the print outs of these fields, study them, and them come up with winning strategies. Some paintball leagues that feature these types of field designs include Centurio Circuit, NXC Paintball, and Millennium Series. The Millennium Series had some of the best teams in the world competing in their signature Championship - The Toulouse World Cup. Top ranking professional teams at the Toulouse World Cup included the Oslo Menace, Joy Stockholm, and the Toulouse Tontons.
Millennium Series and X-Ball style tournament games all feature standardized speed ball fields, with the familiar mirror image. Some of the high profile Millennium Series will occur in July 2007, with the Campaign Cup, and in October 2007, with the Disney French open. The Disney French open will be held in Paris France, and it will be the last major event of the Millennium European Paintball Series.
