Inflatable Bunkers | Shapes & Sizes
As the sport of paintball grew, the desire for competitive games grew, and the need for standardized matches grew also. Younger players that grew up in an American society began campaigning for games that were played on smaller fields, and with faster games. Out of the nee for speed and action grew the sport of speedball. Speedball fields are relatively smaller fields, compared to woods ball and scenario fields. In most sections of a speedball field, any player from either team will be close enough to two or three opposing players to get eliminated. For this reason, there is always a lot of action going on, and games are always exciting. As the sport of sped ball became more popular, tournaments and leagues that featured speedball games grew year by year. League founders during this time decided to create speedball fields that players could go online and download, and walk through before tournament games to plan and strategize. Players wanted standardized fields, like soccer and football fields, that all players could be familiar with and comfortable with.

To make standardized Speedball fields, operators of games made flat rectangular fields with inflatable bunkers that could be easily set up. To make the games interesting and exciting, inflatable bunkers began becoming available in may shapes and sizes. For each bunker players have different angles to shoot from while standing, kneeling, or lying down. Bunkers like the familiar X are much taller than the players, offering him a lot of protection, while other bunkers like the snake require players to lie down and crawl to stay alive in games. All the various bunkers, with their various shapes and sizes, have their own strengths and weaknesses when it comes to shooting angles, height, and coverage. Competitive tournament players study the specific bunkers used in their next tournament game, so that when the matches come, they will know how to use the bunkers to their advantage. In this article, we will review all the different inflatable bunkers and their various shapes and sizes. Also listed in this article will be some of the more prominent manufactures of inflatable Bunkers, including Sup' Air Ball, and Mighty Paintball Corporation.
Bunkers Shapes & Sizes. Probably the most familiar bunker that you will see will be the oversized X, which stands at about 20 feet high and is seen at the center of the most X-Ball fields. With its size and height, the X offers paintball players a lot of protection, but it also can make a player vulnerable as he passes across the open space at the bottom of the X. The brick is a popular bunker in tournament series such as the Northern European Series because it is long and wide. The brick bunker is laid vertical so it is longer than it is wide when it is standing up. The brick bunker is in the shape of a rectangle.
Some popular manufacturers of inflatable bunkers include Extreme Rage and Kingman. Kingman bunkers are available either 3 feet by 5 feet, or 3 feet by 3 feet.
