Bunkers | Your Shield Against the Enemy
Bunkers are man made structures on or in the ground. While many paintball fields have natural objects to get behind to avoid getting shot, bunkers usually refer to man made objects that are specifically placed on sections of the field that players can get behind to provide cover from enemy fire. Good teams even know which bunkers they are going to go to first even before the Game On! whistle. These structures keep players from getting hit by paintballs, and they also serve as stepping stones for advancing or retreating. Bunkers may be products especially made for paintball fields such as the Sup'Air Ball from Adrenaline Products. On bunkers can be large objects that have been discarded for their original purpose, but now enjoy a second life as a paintball object for hiding behind. These second life bunkers may include wire spools, slacks of tires, large construction pipes stacked vertically, and logs of trees stacked up to provide cover from the enemy. Almost any alteration to the landscape of the paintball field can serve as a bunker, including landscaped trenches and mounds, store pallets stacked one on top of the other.

The bunkers that you build or blow up and secure on the field will depend on the type of game you are playing. If you are playing on a woodsball field, there will already be lots of natural objects in the environment for players to get behind and advance from. To provide players even more cover, players may stack logs to provide players with bunker walls. Bunkers made of natural products are sometimes better as they are durable and they do not make your field look like a junk yard. If the format is scenario games, much more exotic bunkers are used, and many of these bunkers reflect the theme of the game they are playing. If the theme of the scenario game is World War II, the game may have helicopters, army vehicles, tanks or even real jeeps that players can use for cover and shoot from. One great scenario game field that features military bunkers is Diablo Venture Games. On this field, players show up dressed in full camo, ready to take on the enemy. Players at Diablo Venture Games can stand up and aim for the enemy from around the forts, and bunkers laid out all over the field. The bunkers at these fields are seamlessly built into the natural landscape, making for a more realistic feel to their scenario games.
If the paintball format is speedball or tournament paintball, the inflatable bunkers are the product of choice. Like on a soccer field, speedball fields are equal bunker placements. Imagine the dimensions drawn on a piece of paper, with the field boundaries, and bunkers drawn. If you were to draw the bunkers on the two halves of the field, and bend the paper in half, they would all touch one another. As the bunker on both sides of the field must be the same size, inflatable bunkers that are the logical choice on fields like this. Some great inflatable bunkers include Mighty Air Bunkers from the Mighty Paintball Corporation. Mighty Air Bunkers can be inflated and anchored to the ground in about 20 minutes.
