The Oklahoma D-Day tournament lasts over 1 week, with continuous games and varied activities throughout. Participants in these games may perform a variety of team roles and positions, including grunts, role players, platoon leaders, Rangers, Pathfinders, and the Panzer Recon. Dewayne Convirs and his D-Day staff work with this large group of players to select generals, executive officers, and high ranking officers. The generals and executive officers then have the authority to select grunts, role palyers, and other subordinates as they see fit.
The D-Day events are preceded by a parade from the various teams and squads led by the generals and executive officers. While speedball paintball games feature athletic players who rapid fire and wear flashy colors, scenario and woodsball games wear camouflage uniforms and authentic uniforms that are similar to the ones that you would have seen on the soldiers that participated in the real D-Day. There are so many enthusiasts of this event that the operators had to cap the registration numbers at 4,000 so that the games would not get out of hand. Scenario players are thrilled by large fields and simulations of real military events and combat. The rush of wartime combat tactics is what motivates scenario players not quick, ten minutes games. Oklahoma D-Day and other big games are the safest way to experience battles or military events without actually having to put yourself in harms way. This game features many of the same elements as the real thing, strong quick-thinking leaders, loyal executive officers who will their men an women into executing the game plan, and the grunts and soldiers who loyally perform their tasks as they are told to.
The objectives in this event is not always to capture the opposing team's flag, it can be to take a section of the field away from the enemy, or to set up a base of operations in a section of the field that was once hostile. In the U.S. 1st infantry Division, some of the objectives include landing at Omaha Beach and securing a beachhead there. The U.S. 1st Infantry Division in this mission are expected to back up the 3rd Ranger Bn in pushing back the German 352nd Infantry-Division, taking gun emplacements, and running the German soldiers out of their fortifications behind the beach. The two main armies in this multi-day event include the Allied Units and the German Units.
