Paintball Safety - Player Positions
A paintball safety is like a safety in football. In football, this safety is the last player the running back or receiver must get by on their way to the end zone. In paintball, the safety is your last hope to stop your opponents from scoring.
The player playing this last line of defense may be specially designated to man the area around the flag. Or a safety might be a rover that drops back towards the flag when it becomes vulnerable to enemy capture. A team may designate one or more player as a safety prior to the game, or the safety might be a rover that reacts to an opponents assault on the flag.

The paintball safety is often responsible for preventing its opposing team from capturing your flag. The paintball safety is one of the most important positions on the field. Other positions on the field include the point man, sniper, and rover. The point man is usually the player the furthest from the home base and the closest player to the enemy. Because of all of these things, the point man has the high-profile position, and the most dangerous one. The point man is usually the first player on your team to engage the enemy, and the player to grab the flag, if your team is successful. The point man needs to be experienced and savvy if he wants to avoid enemy fire, so newbies beware! Newbies and beginners usually provide backup for the point man, or occupy a position further back in the field.
Paintball players playing the position of point man, safety, rover, and sniper will play in the sport that involves three categories: Tournament, scenario, and recreational. Recreational paintball fields are the most common ones, they are parks that are usually owned and operated locally and located on private land.
