Lessons for the New Player
Every new paintball player wants to make that jump from newbie to the salty dog gunslinger. Paintball can be tough for new players trying to break into the sport. Many times a newbie may be eager to learn but come across to many established veterans unwilling to take some time out to teach a beginner the basics. Below are some new tips for the newbie to become a better competitor on the paintball field.
Know when to be aggressive, and when to sit back and wait for the right move and the right shot. Ion a bid for the newbie to show off his bravery and leadership abilities, he may come out o the gates running and shooting down the field. Players demonstrating this type of aggressive behavior are likely to be spun around in a flurry of paintball splatter. While confidence and boldness are two desired leadership traits, good team play involves player movements designed at providing each other cover and planned attacks. Teams and individuals are more likely to have success making bold moves as a team and with courageous leaders flanked by other p layers on their right and left offering support. Players going it alone right down the center of the field are asking for elimination.
When in the crouched position, watch your sides. If your backside is not safely behind cover, it will become a preferred target among players.
Don't follow orders blindly from anyone. There are times when soldiers on the field must become the captain in the event of faulty leadership.
Watch out before entering a bunker or a hut, you may not be alone. When entering a shelter already overrun by the enemy, you have a distinct disadvantage. First, they are standing still waiting while you are moving about. They can hear you, but you can't hear them. The odds are definitely in their favor.
Watch what you lay down in and crawl around in. While you may have found a killer hiding spot, you may nave also found grounds infested with ragweed, poison oak, or poison ivy. Believe me, a summer full of itching and scratching is no fun.
Wear quality footwear on the paintball field, and make sure your shoe laces are tied tight. Quality footwear includes hiking boots and high topped sneakers. Both of these types of shoes will help protect your feet from ankle sprains, one of the most common paintball injuries. Wear dry shoes on the paintball field to protect yourself from athletes foot. Also, lacing your shoes or boots tight will prevent them from getting stuck in the mud.
Don't play night paintball unless you have the proper equipment.
Vary your game so that you don't become a predictable paintball player.
While one on one shootouts similar to the gunslinger battle of the old west are great fantasy, in reality you should not take on opponents head on fact to face.
