Confidence on the Paintball Field
Confidence on the paintball field is important towards building the trust of your teammates and gaining the respect of your opponents on the field. Paintball is about gaining respect for you. The African lion always goes after the slowest or weakest gazelle on the plains hoping to catch that meal. The fastest lion hunts with the hope of catching the slowest gazelle, or one that may be wounded or sick. Don't be the one in the paintball jungle to call attention to yourself as fresh meat. Show everyone on the paintball field that you belong there, and are a force to be reckoned with.
Act confident and assured. If an opponent does not respect your abilities as a player, you may get attacked first as the lowest link in the chain. Walking and moving with confidence on the field may make your opponent think twice before launching a brazen assault.

"Take 14 athletes of comparable stamina, strength, endurance, and speed. In fact, make all of them exactly alike physically and throw them into competition against each other. Who wins? If no ones stronger, faster, or more bodily able, what would e the deciding factor? One answer: the mind". By IQ SPLAT Magazine, August/September 2006
I have appreciated this quote for its realization that at the end of the day, the most important resource you have is yourself. All the nutritional supplements, training, practice, and buying of expensive paintball gear is not going to matter if you do not believe in yourself. You must train, work out, and practice with your teammates with the knowledge that all of your hard work will lead to success on the paintball field down the road. Paintball is a sport where your mind, the right game planning, and a little confidence can make you superior to your stronger, faster opponent.
Since day one, paintball has been more about the mental aspects of tactics, strategy, and achieving a goal than it has been about brut strength and speed. It's once of the only sports where you can just as easily outthink your opponent as out run them.
Have confidence in your abilities as a paintball player, and have the confidence that you will have the confidence to stay one step ahead of your opponent. If you see yourself doing right, then you will do right. Plan and execute a game strategy and stick with it. Maintain confidence in the game plans and you will have an edge in combat.
"In wrestling, I found that overcoming your opponent was 80 percent mental. So not only do I always feel that I can beat my opponent but I want them to think that I can beat them too. (Thomas Taylor, SPLAT Magazine, August/September 2006
Maintain a posture and an air that you are a dominant force on the paintball field. Take all the confidences for yourself, and take it away from the opposition. Now, you have a true competitive advantage. Gaining this type of confidence involves believing in you from day one, and doing all the necessary training and studying the game of paintball to maintain this edge. Confidence on the paintball field means knowing that you trust yourself, and knowing that you will make a difference towards helping your team win.
