Tips for the Beginner
If you think you are too old to begin learning the sport of paintball or are overwhelmed by the game, we have some encouraging news. Many new converts to paintball are in the 20s, 30s, & 40s before they start play8ing for the first time, and are having a blast. And while there is a lot of gear involved in the game, you should be able to get up to speed with a little research.
Tips for the Beginner
The first tip for the beginner getting into the game is to stay optimistic and to stay encouraged through the learning process. Many paintball veterans have been in the game since they were very young, and have little interest in teaching newbies the ropes. Many paintball groups involve people that have been playing together for a long time and have formed a close knit groups so newcomers sometimes have a hard time breaking into an established group apprehensive to outsiders. Do not despair. There are many books available for learning about paintball gear and paintball tactics so that you will have a wealth of knowledge of the game by the time that you step onto the field. And paintball is such a fast growing sport with new groups forming all of the time. For a list of the paintball basics, read on below.

If you want to be regarded as a serious paintball player, then you must dress the part. For upper body protection, you must wear a shirt that covers your body and arms. A T-shirt is a dead giveaway. Popular long sleeved colors include camouflage and black, and colors to be avoided include yellow, white, or pink.
For your legs, shorts and khaki pants are to be avoided at all times. Jeans are also on the newbie dead giveaway list. A common item seen on the paintball field are camouflage style long pants, also know as a woodland design. Army/Navy surplus stores and sporting goods outlets are good places to pick up woodland style camouflage pants.
For shoes, you need something that will cover the ankles and can handle the rugged terrain in wooded paintball fields. Bad choices for footwear include cowboy boots, deck shoes, and street shoes. Good paintball shoes include high top athletic footwear and hiking boots. High topped, rugged shoes are a good protection from ankle injuries, a common ailment in the game. The more you dress the part of a serious paintball player, the more you will be treated like one.
How to look like a pro on the field
When you are on the paintball field, show that you belong there. Carry around your gear and walk with confidence. Remember, a seasoned predator will often go after who he thinks is the weakest link in the chain. Don't call attention to yourself and become an easy target. When you stop out onto the field, do so with a positive attitude. Walk around like you area a force to be reckoned with. Show others that you would make for a good teammate or a dangerous hunter to be avoided. Nonverbal behavior is always important in the sports and business worlds. I have also found that when your act like you are going to become successful, this can also lead to real success in games.
It is also important that you show no fear on the paintball field. Everyone on the field is capable of getting blasted by a lethal shot and coming out of the game. Show others that you belong on the field and are ready to take anyone down.
