Barrel Swab
A player should have a barrel swab on hand during and after paintball games so that he can keep his gun clean, and working properly during the game. A barrel swab is like a squeegee in that it can clean out the interior of a paintball gun barrel if any gets stuck inside. Paint can get stuck in the gun barrel for a number of reasons. Sometimes a paintball gets jammed in the gun, and misfires, or maybe the paintballs have not been stored properly, making them prone to explode in the barrel. For whatever reason the paint residue gets stuck in the barrel, you must clean it out as quickly as you can, even during the game. Paint resident in the barrel can compromise shooting accuracy, and if the residue dries and stays in the barrel long enough, it can damage the barrel.
Most paintball players bring a barrel swab to the field, and keep it on them during the games. Usually, players in games are responsible for their own equipment, and a referee won't stop play just because your maker jams. So a player should always carry squeegees and cleaning rods. Cleaning rods and squeegees are effective at removing paint and shell halves from the barrel of your gun. There are many good barrel swabs on the market today, such as some models manufactured by Allen. Other products that are similar to the Allen Squeegee barrel swab are the Viewloader Pro-Flex Squeegee and the Tippmann Pull Through Squeegee. The Viper Squeegee by Allen Paintball Products works well with most .68 caliber paintball guns, such as the Aphix by Aim Paintball, the Spool E-1 from Air Challenger, and the Definiant2 from Bob Long. The Allen Viper Squeegee is tough, and the disks make a good seal around the barrel, helping to get all the paint out. For optimal use the Viper Squeegee works best when the barrel is taken off the marker first. With the rod and barrel swab design, the Viper Squeegee works best if you can pull the rod from one end of the barrel to the other. Using the Viper Squeegee without taking the barrel off the marker might push back the shells or paint into the marker.
